BOOKFACE SHUTS DOWN (NONEXISTENT?) NEW YORK OFFICE

Bookface.com, which launched earlier this year, has let go of 20
percent of its workforce over the past few weeks and has suggested
the rest spend a little time on their resumes. Tammy Deuster, the
company's chief executive officer, told M.J. Rose of Wired News that
it's all par for the course: ''As with so many dot-coms right now, our
growth plan is going to be slower than we expected. The staff cuts
were a result of shutting down the New York office.'' But according to
what a few unnamed sources told Rose, there was no New York office.
Ever. Says one source, ''That positive spin is an effort on the
management's team to not scare off any possible new investors.'' Also
in Wired News, Rosettabooks.com will launch next year with low-priced,
backlist e-books available in all e-platforms, LibraryCard.com aims to
become ''the largest booklist in the Web world'' when it launches next
year, and Xlibris is partnering with Lightning Source.
