Barnesandnoble.com Increases Stake in Enews.com
NEW YORK (VENTUREWIRE) -- Barnesandnoble.com said it has significantly
increased its stake in online magazine-subscription retailer enews.com. A
spokeswoman for barnesandnoble.com declined to say exactly how much was
invested in enews.com, but indicated that it's stake was now significantly

more than 40%. The giant bookseller initially acquired 32% of enews, and
then upped it to 40% in December 1999, the spokeswoman confirmed. When
barnesandnoble.com first invested in enews in February 1999, it signed a
four year agreement to increase its holdings in the startup through the
receipt of warrants over the course of that period. The spokeswoman said
the
latest investment makes Barnes & Noble--the online subsidiary
barnesandnoble.com and the company itself--the largest shareholder in
enews.
Barnesandnoble.com joined forces with enews.com before it invested in the
company, the spokeswoman said. The magazine section on the
barnesandnoble.com site, for example, is powered by enews. Other investors

in enews.com include Hachette Filipacchi Magazines, Madison Dearborn
Partners, and Time.
