META MEDIA PART IV
Steve Brill's rumored acquisition of Inside.com parent Powerful Media is
expected to be announced today. The Wall Street Journal
<http://interactive.wsj.com/articles/SB986160607893794345.htm>
(subscription
required) speculates that the deal will combine Inside's Web site and
magazine with Brill's Content magazine and Primedia's Media Central, a
collection of media properties. (Primedia owns a minority stake in Steve
Brill's Brill Media Ventures, and Brill oversees Media Central.) The
Journal
also reports that the stock deal -- valued at between $25 and $35 million
--
will make Powerful Media a minority shareholder in Brill Media Ventures.
While Inside.com will still be live, it'll be integrated into Media
Central,
and will mainly be a hub for Media Central's collected properties,
including
trade magazines Folio and Cable World, writes the Journal. The New York
Times
<http://www.nytimes.com/2001/04/02/technology/02BRIL.html?searchpv=nytToda
y>
reports that Inside magazine will combine with Brill's Content to create a

hybrid title called Inside Content. Powerful Media co-founder Deanna
Brown,
former publisher of Brill's Content magazine, is expected to leave the
company, while fellow co-founders Kurt Andersen and Michael Hirschorn are
expected to sign two-year contracts with the new venture, writes the
Times.
